Rectal polyps

About 10-20 % of all people develop polyps in the colon and rectum in the course of life time. 20 % of these polyps occur in the rectum. They are divided in neo-plastic and hyper-plastic polyps. Neo-plastic polyps (adenomas) could change into a malign tumour (carcinoma of the rectum). It is not clarified why polyps occur; in the end a weaving fault occur during the constant renewing of colon mucus. Sometimes a stitch drops and leads to an unwanted polyp formation. The influence of nutrition of polyp occurrence is disputed.

Polyps cause no complaints in general and only detected in the course of an intestinal cancer check-up, or other problems of the intestines occurring in a colonoscopy. They could be eliminated without problems within a colonoscopy.
